Feather loss

I have a new conure, got him/her 1 month ago, he/she is 7 mos old. The last time i cleaned her cage, i noticed some feathers on the bottom of her cage, small downy grey tipped, is this normal

Answer:

Hi,

Pet birds are continually losing feathers and growing new ones. Many birds will also go through a heavy molt once or even twice a year. Unless your bird has any bare patches of skin where feathers used to be, then some feathers on the cage floor are normal. Bare areas of skin are an indication of the bird pulling out his own feathers.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
