Feather plucking
Can unknown what can I do my cockatiel is plucking he’s feathers and I bought a spray and it didn’t work what can I do
Hi Felicita,
Feather plucking – now known as feather destructive behavior – is a complicated condition that often involves a medical cause as well as behavioral involvement. Unfortunately the sprays are generally not effective. The best thing to do is take your bird to an avian vet to try to determine the cause. There are many possibilities including a skin infection, parasites or certain viruses. The plucking can turn into a habit where even when the medical cause is treated the bird still plucks. But first you need to find out what is going on and then the vet can recommend a course of treatment.
Thank you for asking Lafeber,
Brenda
