Feeding collagen

my female green check conure likes to have a small amount of ancient nutrition multi collegen. is collegen healthy for parrots? should I sprinkle some on their food?

Answer:

Hi Kathy,

Here is Dr. Tully’s response:

From an article where collagen was supplemented to growing chickens along with other groups that were fed a normal diet.

In conclusion, our results demonstrated that the enhancement in growth rate of birds was observed by providing them with collagen along with the regular diet.

Therefore, I do not think it would do any harm if you sprinkled the collagen on their food. But if you see any abnormal signs or behavior I would stop the supplement. In the end you do not need to provide the collagen supplement for your birds to have optimum health. But again, if you do give it there will likely be no adverse effects.
