My female laid her very first eggs ever but she is not laying on them, instead the male is keeping them warm. Now my question is here since its her first time does she not know what she is supposed to do ?
With cockatiels, one parent will sit during the day and the other sits at night. If the female isn’t helping at all, then it may be inexperience. However, some males get mixed up and will actually prevent the female from going into the nest box. If the male is too aggressive, you may have to take one bird out while the other sits, and then trade them out every day. Most first clutches fail because the parents are still learning. It’s best to give them privacy and let them learn from their mistakes.
Thank you for asking Lafeber,
