Finch

Hello,
My Finch has been alone now for 2 years and he seems to be fine but now I read that I should never have just one…what do you think?

Answer:

Hi,

Finches are social, like most birds. So they do like having a companion. With a tame  bird that is handled, you are the companion. But usually a finch just likes having another finch around. You can get another male if you don’t want to deal with eggs or breeding. Usually two males will get along, but you never know. You could get a female and there is no guarantee they will get along. If you do add another bird, you need another cage because you can’t just add another bird. And you need to add another adult – not a baby or very young bird. A new bird should be kept separate for at least 30 days in case of disease, and then you place the cages side by side to give them time to get used to each other. When you do introduce them, you need to keep a close eye on them for any fighting.
