Foot Problem with my African Grey

Hi- for the last several months. my female African Grey (30 years old) has has had problems with, first one, and now both of her feet. It seems like she cannot readily open her talons to grip, She struggles to climb across her perches. People at my local bird store say she is may be suffering from arthritis. She is otherwise in good health. eating , sleeping and interacting with family. No other changes in environment, etc. She had a cold virus about a year ago (and recovered with medication) and went to the local avian vet. Any comments would be very appreciated.

Answer:

Hi Matthew,

I would definitely take her back to the Avian Vet. Because this began with one foot and then progressed, it could be something internal. She is a bit young to have arthritis, especially something that severe. We do have a senior diet with supplements that can help, but first you need to take her to a vet to see if this is something that needs treatment.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
