galah

Hello, I’m wondering if you might be able to help me?
I feed the wild birds where I live in Tingoora Qld.
I have about 12 galahs that feed here. There are 2 that are a bit smaller then the rest and there colours are not as bright as the other ones. They are quite dull.
I am wondering why and what may cause this?
The other galahs seem to push these ones around too.
Out of the 2 there’s one that stays here most of the time and doesn’t get spooked as much as the other galahs.
Thank you for any information you can provid.

Answer:

Hi Rahni,

These are probably a different sub-species than the others. They may have been driven from their range by fires or a storm. Or someone may have had them as pets and released them. Since they come from another region, this is why they are being treated as outsiders. It’s hard to say if they will ever be fully accepted. I’m not sure if it is common for the sub-species to stray from their natural range.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
