is there a certain thing that a male does that a female doesn’t. i am now very into parakeets because i now have to and i want to know as much as possible to give them a better life than at the pet shop.
You can tell the sex of many parakeets by the color of the skin around their nostrils – this is called the cere. It is blue in males and white or brown in females. It is not as clear with young birds or with certain color mutations – especially the pastel or solid colors like white or yellow. In general, the males are more vocal and more likely to talk and also more friendly. Of course this is in general – some females can also be talkative and friendly. I’ll give you a link to our bird care and bird diet guides and you will find plenty of information to help you know how to give them a great life!
Thank you for asking Lafeber,
