Gender

Hi.. i bought a female which had many dots under the wings and tails.. now i cant find any dots. So is it a male or a female? Also it will always fight with my other male cockatiel like its a dominant. Even when i separate both of them this bird will try to get to my male and irritate him. He always get scared of that bird and would not sing if it is in his sight. Please tell which gender that bird is. It would always bully my male and sing to him by dancing infront of him. I dont know what to do

Answer:

Hi Kylie,

If the bird lost the dots – also called pearls – you have another male. Females wear the pearls. 🙂

All cockatiels start out with female markings which they lose when they go through their first adult molt – generally around 6 months old but sometimes up to a year old.

Two males will get along a lot of times, but not always as seems to be the case with these two.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
