gestation period

What is the gestation period after you see your green check are mating do they lay eggs.

Answer:

Hi Ina,

Birds do not technically have a gestation period because they lay eggs, which may or may not be fertile. If the eggs are fertile, then all development takes place in the eggs, and doesn’t even begin for at least 48 hours after the hen has started sitting on the egg. This is called the incubation period and it is different for every species. As for mating, mating does not always result in eggs, and eggs are not always fertile just because the birds mated. Most hens lay within days of mating if they are going to lay eggs, and at most it might be two weeks. The longer the delay between mating and egg laying, the less likely the eggs are to be fertile.
