Grey parrot Kidney disease? – Dr. Lamb Webinar Sept 16

We adopted a 23yo CAG & were told his huge wet, messy droppings were due to a kidney injury. He acts perfectly fine otherwise. Is there anything we should avoid or add to his diet to help?

Answer:

Hi Janine,

Here is Dr. Lamb’s response:

Has he had blood work to confirm this? There are many causes for large, messy droppings and things like blood work, infectious disease testing, toxin testing, and radiographs may be necessary. If its confirmed that there is kidney disease then doing supportive care like making sure he is well hydrated, giving oemga-3 fatty acids and ensuring he is on a well balanced diet with good vitamin A is important.
