Hi

How tell two parakeets boy girl tell me

Answer:

Hi Jonathan,

With many parakeets, you can tell the gender by the color of the cere, the skin around the nostrils, once the parakeet is about a year old. However, with some color mutations, the cere is not an indication. If your parakeet has a blue cere, then it is a male, and if the cere is white or brown, it is a female. If the cere is a pale lavender color, then you won’t be able to tell the gender without having the vet do a blood test. This is usually the case with the pale or pastel colors or the solid white or yellow parakeets. You can guess based on behavior – the males are generally friendlier and more vocal and the females are more shy and mostly make a loud screeching sound.
