Hiding her eggs

My female cockatiel has laid five eggs and has had four of them and is only laying on one, the other ones are now cold! What should I do

Answer:

Hi Amanda,

Does your bird have a mate? Does she have a nest box? If yes to both of these, then she is probably just inexperienced. They can make a lot of mistakes with the first clutches. All you can do is hope she does better next time. After a couple of tries, whether she has chicks or not, you should rest the pair – take the box away and try again in a few months. If she is a single bird, throw away the cold eggs, and when she is tired of the single egg, she will abandon it, too.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
