How hot can the bird take, what temperature

What temperatures can a African gray bird. Be in.

Answer:

Hi Elizabeth,

Parrots can tolerate heat better than really cold temperatures. However, they do not do well with abrupt temperature changes. For example if they are used to the air conditioning and you decide to take him outside on a hot day, he could end up getting sick or possibly even suffer heat stroke. Generally they can tolerate any temperature you can. But if kept outside all the time, he needs shade and good ventilation. Some aviaries have water misters installed for when the heat is too high. When a bird starts to get too hot, he will pant like a dog, sit low on his perch and hold his wings away from his body to help with cooling. If he is indoors, and you are in a part of the country where you don’t have air conditioning but are having unusually hot temperatures, you can cool him by misting him with water, and also make sure he is not in a closed room – he needs to be in a well ventilated area, but not directly under or in front of a fan. A ceiling fan or oscillating fan can create some moving air, but he needs to be exposed to that indirectly rather than be in a draft.
