i really need help

my parakeets have been going in a hole in my ceiling lately and the female hasn’t come out in a while and i woke up to hear a baby parakeet in the ceiling, so should i move it? i don’t know what to do in this situation. do i put it in a breeding box or do i just leave it. i have a breeding box my bird used when she had her other babies so will that work? i have no idea please help

Answer:

Hi,

If you move the chick and any remaining eggs, the pair will likely reject them. Parakeets need a stable environment in order to breed, so if you try to move them, they will just abandon the chicks and eggs. While far from ideal, you will need to leave things as they are and hope she can lead the chicks out the way she went in. Or if you know how to hand feed, you can get the chick and feed it yourself. Obviously block off that hole once all of the birds and eggs are out. Your birds should be flying or roaming free where they can access something like this. Loose birds must be supervised, and put in the cage when you can’t be watching. This type situation may not have a good outcome, which is why it is so important to keep your birds safe in their cage or flight and have a safe, controlled environment for breeding.
