Kakariki

Hello

I plan on acquiring a kakariki baby in a few weeks and I am beginning to prepare things for him. What would be the best pellet for him? I see cockatiel and then food for budgies/parakeets in the traditional sense but nothing specifically geared for kakariki. I also plan on feeding avi-cakes and fresh as well as dried fruits and veggies. Thank you in advance for any help given!

Answer:

Hi Neri,

Kakarikis are a grass parakeet, so they eat the same size as parakeets or cockatiels. Even food labeled for conures or small parrots can work for a Kakariki. He may prefer the smaller food at first, and then might want to try some larger foods as he gets older. Our Avi-Cakes and Nutri-Berries are great for Kakarikis. You can offer these foods in combination to provide more variety for him. Congratulations on your new baby!

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
