Laying eggs

Hi my African grey laid 4 eggs at the end of May and tonight September 2 she laid another egg. She is about 25 yrs old doesn’t have a nesting box or any birds around the house. What can I do to deter her from laying eggs? And what supplements can I give her so she doesn’t become deficient in protein or calcium?
Thank you

Answer:

Hi,

We actually have some webinars specifically about Greys and hormones, so I will give you those links. As for any supplements, it would be best to have her Vet checked first. If you start giving her protein and calcium rich foods, it could actually cause her to lay more eggs. Hormone treatments are always something you can ask your Vet about, if making changes in her routine and environment do not work. It is definitely not unusual at all for a Grey to start laying eggs at this age.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
