Laying eggs

My bird cocktaiel lay her 1st egg before 10 days back and the another egg she has given now does this happens so much of gap between previous egg n second egg

Answer:

Hi Prachi,

It sounds like she is starting over. Normally she will lay 4-6 eggs, with only one day in between each egg. When a bird just lays one egg, or lays them sporadically, there can be many reasons for this. She may be too young – she should be at least 2 years old before being paired with a male. If she has already been a breeder, she may be nesting too often – the nest box should be removed after the chicks leave each time, and the pair rested for 6 months. She may be too old, have a health issue, inadequate nutrition, or for some reason she doesn’t release enough eggs. Wait and see what happens this time. If she continues to only lay one egg, then she probably should not be used as a breeder.
