Laying eggs

After I removed the other pair from the one laying eggs now what ?. Will she lay on her egg till it hatches? Will she be ok ?

Answer:

Hi Cristina,

The male needs to be in the cage with the bird that is laying the eggs. She can’t take care of eggs by herself. She needs to have a nest box. If the egg is just on the cage floor or some other type of nest, it won’t work out. They use a wood nest box, attached to the outside of the cage. Any kind of open nest doesn’t keep the eggs or chicks safe. Again, I doubt anything will come of these eggs if you haven’t observed the male and female mating. They have to be bonded as a pair. They would sit together all the time, feed each other and mate. If he ignores her, then they are not bonded. So the eggs would be infertile if they have never mated. Whatever you decide, you can’t have all three birds together again. Since the females were already starting to fight, they are probably going to keep fighting, and might fight to the death. Please read my first reply again so you can try to have a better understanding of what is going on here.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
