Lonely Cockatiel

My cockatiel is 8 years old, I don’t have very much time to interact with her, should I get her a companion cockatiel? She has never been around any other birds, so I am not sure what to do.

Thank you

Answer:

Hi Lauren,

If your cockatiel is a tame pet do not get another bird to put in the same cage. They will end up bonding and you will lose your bird as a pet. Make sure she has plenty of toys to keep her busy. You can also offer her a foraging diet, which takes longer to eat and provides foraging exercise – please see link below. And radio or TV can provide some companionship when you are away.
