Answer:

Hi Magaldh,

If you have a bonded pair of Lorys, you can offer some cooked eggs with the shell washed, crushed and cooked with the eggs. The extra protein and calcium are important for the female to form eggs, and this can encourage breeding and egg laying.

Lory’s eat fruit, nectar from flowers, flowers and small insects in the wild. In captivity, you can feed them a powder or pellets diet that is formulated for Lorys. Most Lory breeders only feed a large variety of fruits, some vegetables, and a commercial dried insect food made for birds. If you can find a nectar that is made for Lorys, you can also offer this. It will usually be made with sugar and vitamins.

Lorys should never be fed seeds and grains. Their digestive systems are not able to properly digest seed and grains, and they can die from eating a lot of seeds and grains. They need a mostly fruit diet with some protein. They have a very specialized diet and should never be fed foods that are high in iron.

Lorys are very high energy birds and should have food available to them at all times. There is not a set amount – each bird eats what it needs for his individual metabolism and activity.
