Lovebird diseases

I just bought a lovebird from a pet store what diseases should I have him/her tested for and what are the most common?

Answer:

Hi Paula,

It is best to have this discussion with your Avian Vet. Your Vet will have recommendations and advise you on what tests are necessary and which ones are optional. Chlamydia and Polyoma are probably the most common with lovebirds. But unless you have other birds or plan to have them, a polyoma test may not be necessary. Most Avian Vets will have a standard new bird exam package, and additional tests will depend on the bird’s background and whether or not you have or will have other birds.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
