Lovebirds not laying eggs

My lovebirds are mating for past 2 weeks but has not laid eggs yet

Answer:

Hi Hanifa,

Mating doesn’t always mean the hen will lay eggs. Are they at least 2 years old? If not, they are too young to be breeding yet and shouldn’t have a nest box. If they are 2 or older, all you can do is provide what they need and hope they produce for you. You should be feeding them a nutritionally balanced diet like pellets – not a loose seed mix. You should also offer greens, veggies and some fruit. To help get the hen in condition to form and lay eggs, you should be feeding them an egg food daily. This can be a commercial, dry egg food or cooked eggs with the shell washed, crushed and cooked with the eggs. You should continue feeding this until they have weaned their chicks. Give them plenty of privacy, also, or they will be too nervous to nest. Hopefully she will lay eggs soon, but again, all you can do is wait and hope she does.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
