Mean baby

Hi I have incubated my birds eggs from the start. I have hand fed them from the start. But the 12 day old one seems to be mean. He/she hisses at me. It’s not a hunger cry because he/she’s crop will be full. He/she will stand on its feet and stretch its body upward to try and attack. Or course it doesn’t hurt but still… I been there since day 1 shouldn’t he/she be used to me by now. Does this mean I’m going to have a vicious bird? All it does it hiss and scream at me.

Answer:

Hi,

I wouldn’t worry too much about this. He’s just becoming aware of the surroundings. You should handle them some before each feeding, when their crops are not full. Just for a few minutes at a time.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
