Moluccan spots on eyes

“Mollucan hen probably late 30s has white spot in each eye where the pupil is. Doesn’t seem to be hindering her sight now but I am wondering if this is cataracts developing. There is a spot in each eye, about 2x the size of the period the end of this sentence.

Age related? Diet related? Thoughts?
No possibility of vet visit right now because of covid.

thanks!”

Answer:

Hi Adrianne,

Dr. Tully said these are most likely age related cataracts. He said birds will adjust to this and that it shouldn’t affect her overall quality of life. Make sure she is on a nutritionally balanced diet. You might want to read about our Senior Bird Nutri-Berries. As with all of our diets, these were developed by Veterinarians and Nutritionists and are made with the finest human grade ingredients. The Senior formula can be fed as the main diet, and as always we recommend also offering fresh greens, veggies & fruits. I do recommend a Vet visit when your Vet is seeing patients again.
