My grackle is molting but has lots of baldness

Is it normal for my grackle to have baldi grackle while molting?. Im very worried

Answer:

Hi Penny,

Bald spots are not normal during molting. The bird could be pulling out his feathers, but more likely it is a nutritional issue. Grackles are not a bird that is generally kept as a pet. If you live in the US, and this is one of the native species of Grackles, they are illegal to have as pets. They are protected on the Federal level since they are a migratory species. If this is one you found and raised, the best thing to do is find a wildlife rehabilitation center where he can be fed the right type of diet and eventually be released to the wild. If this is an exotic species or you live in another country, I would recommend taking him to an Avian Vet to see what might be wrong with him.
