My love bird

My love bird lay an egg but not in breeding box and she is laying on it

Answer:

Hi Shephi,

I would place the egg in the nest box to encourage her to use that. She will mostly likely lay up to 6 eggs, with one day between each one. Keep moving the eggs to the nest box to help her figure out that is what it is for. Eggs that are on the cage floor or a makeshift nest do not have a good chance of hatching. If the cage floor has a metal grate, the eggs definitely will not hatch there. If she does hatch eggs outside of the nest box, it is harder for her to keep the chicks warm and contained in one spot. It is also more distracting for her and she is more likely to abandon the eggs or chicks. If this is her first clutch, it probably will not be successful anyway, so it is best to move them to the box so she can learn.
