Nesting Box with woven nest inside

is it ok to place a woven nest inside a divided rectangular nest box? It just had a bare wood floor, and my bird was not interested in any nesting materials. I was trying to avoid splayed legs on any hatchling. But now she has tossed out her eggs ,unhatched . So I am thinking perhaps I should remove the woven nest ,and see if she prefers bare wood floor.

Answer:

Hi Phyllis,

Yes, as I said in my previous response, remove the woven nest and let her use the bare wood floor is that is what she prefers. Splayed legs is usually caused by poor genetics or the parents being on an inadequate diet, such as an all seed diet. Parents need to be fed a nutritionally balanced diet like pellets or our foraging diets, as well as chopped veggies, fruits, dark leafy greens, multi grain bread and cooked eggs with the eggshell – wash the egg shell and break it unto the eggs and cook the shell and eggs together.
