New baby cockateil

Hi
After much research,my partner and i decided to get a male cockateil. We have had him for nearly 2 weeks now! Over night his behaviour has changed, hes not as vocal or wanting to play with us or or his toys.He is eating and drinking so we’re wondering if he is stressed or anxious over something? The only different thing we did changing his cage was,i had to reach in and get a toy as there was poop all over it.

Answer:

Hi Hannah,

A change in behavior can be a sign of illness. If he is still acting this way, you may need to go ahead and take him to an Avian Vet. A sick bird will continue to eat if it can. Unfortunately there are some diseases that cockatiels can carry, and the stress of moving to a new home can cause the disease to come out. If you get him checked out and he is healthy, then he is just having some stress about settling in. I’ll give you the links to our behavior and training pages so you can see if anything sounds like how he is acting or if it’s time to go to the Vet.
