Hi,
Parrot should always be free fed – meaning they should always have some type of food available in their cage. In the wild, they are foragers and spend much of the day foraging for food. Some species may have feeding grounds that they frequent in the morning and at night, but they still find food in other places throughout the day.
You can put as many pellets in the cage as you want, but the more you give her at a time, the more she will waste. This is instinctive – in the wild, if food is abundant, they drop more food. This helps re-plant the environment and feeds some ground dwelling animals.
In addition to pellets, we recommend offering some of our foraging diets. Our Nutri-Berries, Avi-Cakes and Pellet-Berries are nutritionally balanced the same as a pellet, but they are not ground up. They contain fresh, human grade ingredients, including hulled seeds, then everything is coated in a nutritionally balanced binder to provide complete nutrition in every bite, just like a pellet. Our foraging diets can be fed instead of pellets or along with pellets. The foraging diets provide natural foraging exercise and keeps your parrot busier than if you only feed pellets. We also recommend 20% of the diet consist of leafy greens, veggies, fruits & nuts. You should not offer any loose seeds because they are usually not fresh enough to retain their natural nutrients, and any added supplements are lost when the bird removes the hull. Below is the link to our feeding guide to give you more ideas! Congratulations on your new bird!
