New friends

I have a male lovebird in a large cage. He is 7 months old. Thinking of getting another male lovebird or a parrotlett….would a parrotlett and lovebird get along in separate cages? Thank you.

Answer:

Hi Marie,

If you get another bird, he should have his own cage. The birds probably will not get along because you are each bird’s companion. Adult birds do not need a bird friend. They might vocally interact with other birds in the home. But with birds, if each bird is a tame pet and you want him to remain that way, you do not want him to bond with another bird or both birds will lose interest in you. Lovebirds and parrotlets can both be very territorial and aggressive, so it would not be a good idea to let them interact as they would most likely just fight.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
