normal eggs?

I have 2 parakeets male and female and she laid only 1 egg and she is not sitting on it is that normal for her

Answer:

Hi Debbi,

If she just laid it, then she will probably lay more. They lay an egg every other day and she will lay 4-6 total. She may not begin sitting on them until she has laid at least two, or even until she has laid them all. Otherwise the first chick will be a week older than the last hatched and it can be a problem as they grow. The female knows this instinctively. If it has been a few days with just one egg, and this is the first time she laid, it is not unusual. Most first clutches fail, and sometimes it can take 2-3 attempts to successfully hatch a clutch. Just be patient and give them time to figure out what to do.
