Our Maroon Bellied Conure

This is a curiosity question…

Lori, my housemate, owns a Maroon Bellied Conure – female – 13 years old.

We have cable news on during most of the day as background while we are doing other things. The Conure is in the same room as the tv. So she hears a lot of news and all the ads in between. She does not react to any of it EXCEPT for when any ad comes on for Farmers Insurance. It is a 30 second ad. Attached is one of those ads. The ad does not bother her until the very end where these men sing “We Are Farmers” and then 2 seconds more of music. As soon as that singing comes on the bird goes nuts – to the point where if we can get to the remote before the singing starts, we will change the channel.

As all people are different, we expect you will say it is the same for birds. And thus, this is most probably something unique to our bird. But if by any chance you have access to a Maroon Bellied Conure and can play this ad from your laptop, we would love to know if there is any reaction from another Conure. It does not matter if it comes from our tv or the laptop – when I searched for the ad and played it on the laptop, the bird reacted exactly the same way as she does when it comes on the tv.

Answer:

Hi Jerry,

There is certainly something with the music or singing that the conure doesn’t like. There are a lot of pet bird groups on Facebook or you can visit our Facebook page to get in touch with other conure owners about this interesting reaction.
