Overweight birds?


Are there any physical indicators of a bird being overweight?

Thank you for attending our webinar by Lisa Bono. Below is Lisa’s response:

Yes, cleavage. IF the breast area is larger and you cannot feel the keel bone. The keel bone should be just about the same height as the pectoral muscles on each side of it. It is important to keep an eye on the muscle mass vs the keel bone down the middle. An underweight bird will have a prominent keel bone.

Longer recovery rate after exercise can also be noticed if they are out of shape or over weight.
