Parakeet health

My parakeet has one nare much larger than the other. Is there anything I should be aware of because of this?

What is the optimal indoor temperature for my parakeets?

Answer:

Hi Jessica,

If this is a new development, then you may want to take him to an Avian Vet for a check up. If he was like this when you got him, most likely he either had a severe sinus infection at some point, or possibly an injury. It could even be something that happened in the nest box or when he was in a cage with other parakeets. As long as there is no discharge or visible blockage, it shouldn’t be a problem.

If you are comfortable, then your birds likely are, too. Generally you should avoid abrupt temperature changes. Birds can actually tolerate cold better than heat. There really isn’t an optimal temperature, as long as it’s comfortable for humans and it stays fairly constant.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
