Parakeets

I’ve been trying to find out my two parakeets gender, Neptune has a pinkish purple cere and Ra has a whiteish blue cere. Are they girls or boys?

Answer:

Hi Lexie,

It can be hard to determine the gender for some parakeet mutations. If the birds are a pastel color or solid, they will be harder to tell because sometimes the cere will remain pinkish lavender. It sounds like Neptune may be male and Ra may be female but again, it depends on what color they are. Males are generally more friendly and vocal and females are generally less social and not as vocal other than a loud squawk they make. I would suggest Googling images and try to compare with your birds.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
