Parrot Coloring

We rescued a green ring-necked parakeet a few days ago. Apart from being extremely hungry and thirsty when we caught him, he seems an overall healthy bird who is used to the company of humans and can whistle and speak a few words. However, his flight feathers each have a yellow feather on both his wings. Could this be a sign of malnutrition or imply him being a split between a green and yellow ring-necked parakeet?

Answer:

Hi Fatima,

I would be inclined to think it is because he is split to another mutation, since the same feather on each side has this color. Usually odd colored feathers are random if caused by a health issue.

Thank you for Asking Lafeber,

Brenda
