Pea sized eggs

I know my girl is too young to breed so my intention was to remove eggs as she laid them, but they are only pea sized so I assume they will not be fertile and will be safe for her to sit on until she decides to chuck them out. Am I correct?

Answer:

Hi,

If your bird is too young to breed, then she shouldn’t be with a male. Breeding isn’t the problem – laying eggs is the problem. It takes a lot out of the hen to form and lay each egg. A young bird is not fully developed and is at a higher risk of becoming egg bound or having another complication. Laying undersized eggs can be a sign of a serious problem. I would take her and the eggs to an Avian Vet to find out what is going on.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
