Picky Parrot Webinar – Nutri-Berries
are nutriberris fine to use as the 60 to 80 % main food diet?
Yes, Nutri-Berries are formulated the same as a pellet, but they are not ground up. These can be 80% of the daily diet, with 20% being healthy foods like fruits, veggies, nuts & greens. You do want your bird to eat all of most of each berrie in order to get the full nutritional benefit. If your bird eats his favorite bits and discards the rest, then you need to limit how many you offer at a time, and give him more when he eats all of what you gave him. Wasting food is actually based on wild parrot instincts. In the wild, when food is abundant, a parrot will eat a few choice bites of a food, an throw the rest down. This has a purpose because it helps to replant the environment and also feeds some ground dwelling animals. So when we give our birds too much at a time, they are more wasteful than if we limit what they get until they have eaten it. Pellets can be fed along with Nutri-Berries, so if you are worried about limiting the berries, you can always have a dish of pellets available to him. They do not tend to waste pellets as much, because they aren’t as fun to eat! J
