Pigeon with a Broken Wing

Hi,
Yesterday I found a pigeon with one wing broken at the stairs. When I go near him, he starts spinning and jumping. Sometimes I get to pet him for a few seconds. I have a cardboard box to keep him in for safety.

Answer:

Hi,

You need to find a wildlife center to take him to. They can get Vet care for him. A broken wing is painful and since he is a wild bird, he is terrified to be approached or touched by a human. Please do not attempt to pet him. You can put some seeds and water in the box for him, and keep him quiet until you reach a wildlife rehabilitator. Pigeons are not a protected species, so you can take him to a Vet yourself, but that type injury can be expensive to have treated. He needs treatment, so if you cannot afford it, contact a wildlife center before it’s too late for the poor bird. A broken bone needs immediate treatment on a bird because it can start to heal within a few days. He could also be sick or have parasites, so do not get him anywhere near your pet birds and wash your hands thoroughly after you handle him.
