Pistachios

I’ve got a blue fronted Amazon that is crazy about pistachio nuts, probably eats 5-6 of them a day. At 27 years (approximately) of age ir would be difficult at best to get him off of this treat.

Answer:

Hi Thomas,

Pistachios are one of the healthier nuts for humans, and the same should go for birds. The fat is a “healthy” fat, and there are many other benefits. I would not give him more than what he already eats daily, and do not offer other foods with a lot of protein, fat or Vitamin A because all of these are found in Pistachios and your bird does not need to get too much of these nutrients. I am also assuming you are offering unsalted pistachios, and if roasted, dry roasted and not with any added oils. If so, let him enjoy his pistachios – my birds certainly do!
