Plucking

The good news is that the injuries look better and the bird stopped going crazy over the collar. However it started to chew the edge of the collar at the neck to remove the collar and accidentally ripped some feathers off. I removed the collar to prevent more damage. Fortunately it didn’t look too bad. Do plucked feathers grow back or depends on the condition? Do I need to add more vegetables for his meals for recovery boost?

Answer:

Hi Lillium,

In most cases plucked feathers will grow back. Most birds will pluck around their neck when they have a collar on because that is the only place they can reach. As for vegetables, they are always good but should not make up more than 20% of the daily diet, along with greens and some fruit.
