Question

Can i replace the eggs to a new budgie house so the mother can sit on the new house? Because the old one is kinda broken and not so safe.

Answer:

Hi Orzala,

If you make any changes once a pair already has eggs, they will almost always abandon the nest and eggs. It’s important that you always rest your pair for 6 months, with no nest box, after each clutch of eggs. You should only allow two clutches per year. So if they haven’t had a rest since their last clutch, go ahead and throw the old box out along with the eggs. You don’t want the birds to be in an unsafe box. Then rest them for 6 months, and give them the new box after that.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
