Ringneck lost its tail

My 12-13 year old female Indian ringneck has lost her tail for over months now, and it wont grow back. She doesnt show any signs of illnesses, has a healthy appetite and no significant behavioural changes except shes shouts when none of the family members are in visible sight of her. I may have seen her fiddling with her tail a few times.

Answer:

Hi,

She may have broken the tail feather or chewed it off. In this case, the new feather will not grow in until the rest of the broken feather molts, and that can be months. I wouldn’t be too worried about it unless she starts to lose a lot of feathers. In that case, she might be doing this because she is bored or anxious. Make sure she has toys to play with and stays busy so she won’t mess up her feathers.
