Rosella Chick Eyes

How long should it take for a eastern rosella check to open their eyes? Our chicken hatched almost 3 weeks ago and seems health and is eating alot but has still not opened its eyes. We thought it opened it for a bit but they seem to be closed again.

Answer:

Hi Sharminee,

The eyes should be opened at least some by now. But it depends on when you started hand feeding it. They do not develop as quickly when being hand fed. If the eyes were opened and seem closed again, a respiratory infection can cause something like that. I’ll give you a link to pics showing rosellas chicks developing – these were being parent fed.

If your little on seems to be really behind compared to these, you might think about taking it for a Vet check.
