Single Zebra Finch

Hello,

Is a zebra finch happier in a pair or can they do well solo?

We had two male finches but one recently passed away so just have one male. We don’t want to breed so no females but can a finch be happy as the sole bird?

We keep him with us right now to keep him company, play music and he watches YouTube with zebra finch videos but we’re concerned that long term he won’t be happy alone.

Hi Jenn,

As I said in my previous reply, I do think in the long run that Sam will be happier with another finch. There is the slight chance he won’t get along with the bird you pick, but generally Zebra finches do fine as same sex pairs. Just keep them side by side to begin with and they should start to show interest in each other by sitting close to each other and vocalizing back and forth.
