Size of cage

For a single parakeet or budgie, what size cage do you recommend?
Thanks

Answer:

Hi Candace,

Generally it is best to get the largest cage – with the correct bar spacing for a parakeet – that you can afford or have room for. I would say 18inch by 18inch is probably the minimum size – but larger is better so you can have room for plenty of toys, perches and swings. It also depends on how much the bird will be out of the cage. A square or rectangular shaped cage is best – birds do not like tall narrow cages, especially round cages. They like having corners they can get into.  A good  bird shop can recommend a safe cage.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
