Stopping hand feeding formula for a cocktail and taming them

Hi when can we stop hand feeding formula for a cocktail ?
I have a pair of cocktail which is 2 and a half months old one is friendly with me and other one is trying to bite my fingers ? When I remove them for training they fly away what is the solution?

Answer:

Hi,

If you want them to be tame, you need to keep them in separate cages. Otherwise they will continue to bond with each other, and within a few months, they will not want to be handled at all. As for weaning you need to be offering a lot of foods to them. They need a nutritionally balanced food like pellets – not a loose seed mix. Also offer cooked brown rice with mixed veggies, served warm, chopped veggies, greens, fruits and some formula in a small dish as well as fresh water. Put these foods in the cage first thing in the morning, before you hand feed them, and then leave the room where they can’t see or hear you. Wait at least an hour before you hand feed them. Repeat this before each feeding time. They will start to eat foods on their own and eventually start rejecting the formula. As for the flying, you might have their wings trimmed so you can train them. Once they are trained, and the feathers grow back, they should not fly away like they do now.
