Stunted Baby Cockatiel.

Hi, I have a month old cockatiel baby, she hatched February 12. I got her from a breeder saying she isn’t taking good care of its parents already. She’s been with me for a week now, but what I’ve noticed is, she’s not gaining weight, she’s still roughly around 60 grams to 65 grams. I monitor her feeding and I feed her 4 times a day, around 10 cc per feeding. The growth of her feathers are also so slow, the crop is still visible with minor feather growing, also her neck and same parts of her wings. Also, I’ve noticed visible red veins all over her body (reddish) but mostly prominent on her crop, most parts of her body are reddish, and that also on her leg. Whenever I feed her, I notice that her crop is ballooning and seems like being filled with air, tried switching up to spoon feeding instead of syringe, but still the same, also two bubbles behind her neck and on her right side of the neck is puffing up during feeding. What should I do, there is no vets that specializes in Birds within my area 🙁 Im quite worried.

Answer:

Hi,

Unfortunately there is nothing we can do for you. There are many things that could be going on. even if a vet does not specialize in birds, they can sometimes treat them. You should also ask the breeder, because usually a good breeder will have a Vet they use.

Take care,

Brenda
