Travel cage size for 2 parakeets

I am moving and driving two 4- hour stretches with a hotel overnight. How large should a travel cage be for two parakeets? Thanks for advice!

Answer:

Hi Toni,

A smaller cage is just fine as long as the birds get along well, and can be more easily secured in the car. You should let them spend some time in it a few hours a day to get used to it. Do not put any hanging toys that might hurt them when the car starts moving. It’s a good idea to have a light cover for them – some birds get scared when trucks go by. You should also take some bottled drinking water since you do not know what the water quality might be. And make sure ahead of time that the birds will be welcomed in the hotel. We have had a few webinars on this topic, so I’ll give you the link to the playlist with more tips.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
